NEWS | Captain Sam Smeaton commits future to Doncaster RLFC

The Dons captain has put pen to paper on a two-year extension to continue plying his trade for his hometown club.

The experienced 34-year-old will remain at the Eco-Power Stadium after a record try-scoring campaign that led the Dons to promotion to the Betfred Championship. 

'The Dons captain said, 'I’m staying at the Dons as it is my hometown club and really feels like we are building something special."

Smeaton adds to the already announced re-signings of Connor Robinson and Ben Johnston, as well as new signing Craig Hall. Both chief executive Carl Hall and head coach Richard Horne are working hard behind the scenes to secure even more to follow.

The Forward joined the Dons in 2019 later being given the captain's role in 2022. He was pivotal to the Dons 2023 success breaking the record for most tries in a season for a forward finishing on 21 and was nominated for Betfred League One Player of the Season.
